OUR NAME
There are 81 different references to this man Barnabas in the new testament. His name means "son of exhortation" or "son of consolation" He was an encourager "par excellance" and is described by Luke as "a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith", and as a result of whose devotion and encouragement a large company was added to the Lord. "Whose Who in the New Testament" says that without the sympathy and encouragement of Barnabas, the vital contributions of Paul and Mark, the Christian faith might never have been made.
We see him as a man content to lift others, while remaining in the background. He is also a man that walked humbly. Barnabas displays our own hearts cry: a ministry of encouragement to leadership in the Body of Christ.
